The Book Club is a project within the education programme Lab for New Imaginations of MACRO – Museum of Contemporary Art of Rome, held in September 2021 and curated by the Department for Preventive Education.

In its first edition, Lab for New Imaginations welcomed eight emerging artists, writers, designers and curators from different fields who inhabited the museum for two weeks. The participants met with curators, groups, artists and publishers operating in the territory of Rome in parallel with the internal activities of MACRO. Through a process of self-organization and with the regular support from the museum’s departments, a publishing project was collectively created.

The Book Club is a free, single release publication with the reproduction, juxtaposition and stratification of heterogeneous editorial materials. The images and texts have been combined and overlapped to create new synergies, page after page. Through this process, the participants investigated the themes of translation between different media and of authorship, both individual and collective.

The Book Club will be presented through a round table during which the participants will illustrate the polyphonic nature, genesis and novel process of the project. The discussion will also be an opportunity to further explore the themes addressed during the project with the audience and the various figures which have taken part in this first edition of Lab for New Imaginatiojn. The newspaper will be displayed on the roof of the auditorium and will be distributed free of charge.

The event will take place on the Auditorium’s roof.
Free entrance until capacity reached.
