#Guided tours

A special tour of the exhibition Wolfgang Stoerchle 1944–1976, with Alice Dusapin, editor, curator, researcher, and Fellow at the French Academy in Rome – Villa Médicis 2020–2021, who is conducting extensive research on artist Wolfgang Stoerchle and his legacy.

Wolfgang Stoerchle was a singular figure of the early 1970s who left a strong mark on a generation of Californian artists, especially through the production of videotapes and performances involving the use of his body as his primary material. Wolfgang’s short but intense life (he died in a car accident at the age of thirty-two) is surrounded by rumours and myths. His entire body of work was produced between 1965 and 1976, and forty-five years after he passed away his name still drifts across the West Coast art world, as his little-known work awaits a long overdue reappraisal. In this special tour, Alice Dusapin will lead the visitors through the discovery of the “real” Wolfgang.
