Rome, early 1950s. Dozens of women crowd the staircase of a building for a job interview: only one position is available. A sudden collapse turns the wait into tragedy. Through the stories of the victims, the film reconstructs the social and economic conditions of post-war Italy, giving voice to a female world marked by poverty, exploitation, and fragile hopes. Inspired by real events, it is a powerful neorealist portrayal of the dignity and precarity of labour.
