Based on the novel by Walter Siti, The Contagion explores power dynamics and desire within a Roman suburb marked by ambition, marginality and social tension. The film develops a choral narrative that examines class, culture and individual aspirations, offering a lucid and political portrait of contemporary Italy.
MATTEO BOTRUGNO and DANIELE COLUCCINI are Italian directors and screenwriters. After debuting with Et in terra pax (2010), they presented The Contagion at the Giornate degli Autori section of the Venice International Film Festival.
