Started in 2006 from an intuition by Stefania Miscetti, SHE DEVIL is a video art series that explores, with irony and lightness, the mischievous and subversive spirit through which women’s artistic practices engage everyday life, overturning its conventions and opening new perspectives on the world. The title draws inspiration from a Marvel heroine and from Susan Seidelman’s 1989 film She-Devil, embodying a rebellious and visionary attitude from the outset.
Conceived as a collective project, SHE DEVIL brings together, in each edition, Italian and international artists and curators, from emerging voices to established figures, invited to investigate a specific theme through the language of video. The series operates as an open platform where heterogeneous works and critical positions coexist within a polyphonic framework, giving shape to the multiplicity of women’s worlds and visions.
SHE DEVIL 14 focuses on one of the most fundamental human emotions: fear. Responding to the urges and tensions of contemporary life, the works on view approach this feeling through a plurality of perspectives and formats, including artists’ films, video performances, documentaries, and animation, exploring its many manifestations and modes of representation.
The visual narrative places fear in dialogue with multiple dimensions of existence: transience, violence, relationships with nature and territory, identity, and the sense of belonging in its personal, social, and political dimensions. The exhibition unfolds as a multifaceted trajectory that not only reveals the contemporary forms of fear but also imagines its overcoming, opening toward possibilities of liberation.
