Litografia Bulla and Donato Panaccio, “LitoScape n.2”

Litografia Bulla and Donato Panaccio presents LitoScape n.2, a generative electroacustic sound experience. Through a careful process of recordings made inside the workshop, the breath of the machines, the friction of the stone, and the rhythmic gestures of the printers clearly emerge: sounds rarely accessible to the public, which, together with vocal recordings, compose a dense and material acoustic landscape. The various phases of the printing process at the Bulla workshop thus generate an interweaving of timbres and textures which, thanks to a modular synthesis system, are reworked into a generative composition capable of transporting the listener into the heart of the atelier without ever physically crossing its threshold.

Following LitoScape n.1, created for Spazio Taverna and conceived as a meditative and generative soundscape, this new experience designed for MACRO evolves with a more dynamic and narrative emphasis, in which the everyday and recognizable sounds of artisanal labor become protagonists alongside the voices of several artists. The composition takes the form of a metaphysical bridge between the museum and one of the most emblematic places of artistic craftsmanship, offering the audience the chance to visit, through sound and imagination, an environment rich in history and the guardian of tradition, where time flows slowly both in its most stratified layers and in artisanal labor itself, urging the listener to slow down. The work is further enriched through the use of low-frequency sound waves specifically designed to stimulate neurotransmitters such as serotonin, DHEA, endorphins, and GABA, capable of inducing a state of deep relaxation.

The event will take place in the first-floor room dedicated to UNAROMA LIVE.
Free admission until capacity is reached.

LITOGRAFIA BULLA is the oldest lithographic workshop still in operation. Founded in Paris in 1818, the workshop found its permanent home in Rome in 1840, soon becoming a major point of reference for the city’s artistic community. Located at Via del Vantaggio 2, the activity is now carried on by Beatrice and Flaminia Bulla, the seventh generation of printers in a direct genealogical line. From the 1940s onward, Litografia Bulla began to dedicate itself increasingly to the visual arts, and from the 1960s, under the sixth generation – Rosalba and Romolo Bulla – this fruitful collaboration became definitive. The technique was pushed toward new experimentation, alongside the exploration of other methods such as woodcut printing, working side by side with artists from the most important national and international movements.Today, Beatrice and Flaminia continue to keep the technique alive by experimenting with contemporary Italian and international artists, while also carrying forward the interest in art publishing that already distinguished the previous generation. In 2020, Litografia Bulla inaugurated Passaggi, a large display window opening onto the street from one of the workshop’s most historic rooms. These “passages” unfold between the awareness of traditional artisanal knowledge and the necessity of contemporary visions. The window overlooking one of the printing rooms becomes a small suspended stage open to the present, alternately hosting archival works, new editions, and other projects.

DONATO PANACCIO (Guardiagrele, 1987) is a multi-instrumentalist, record producer, sound designer, and audio production teacher. He has conducted workshops at the Abbey Road Institute and taught in the BA/BSc programs at the School of Sound Engineering and the Institute of Contemporary Music Performance in London. Over the years, he has collaborated with filmmakers, musicians, and artists, working across electronic production, sound design, and acoustic recording. Alongside these collaborations, he has pursued his own research in sound art, digital and multimedia art, performance, and audio-video installations, guided by a strong passion for experimental and avant-garde music – a defining trait of his productions. For more than ten years, he has also been a researcher and practitioner in the major schools of Eastern philosophy, particularly Tibetan and Chinese traditions. In 2016, he received certification to teach meditation from his main teacher. This spiritual path deeply informs his sound practice: meditative practice becomes a lens through which he explores the relationship between listening, perception, and presence, integrating music and sound into artistic and coaching experiences that guide individuals and organizations toward awareness and transformation.
