As part of the fourth edition of Rome Future Week, MACRO presents a special tour of Hito Steyerl’s exhibition Mechanical Kurds with Alessio Jacona, tech journalist and curator of ANSA.it’s AI Observatory, and Alice Labor, curator of the exhibition.

The event will begin with a collective viewing of the video, followed by an in-depth discussion of the themes at the heart of the artist’s research: artificial intelligence, digital labour, image production, and the relationships between technology, power and geopolitical conflicts. Through a dialogue with the audience, the event will offer tools and perspectives for exploring Hito Steyerl’s work, placing it in relation to the technological and social transformations shaping the present. Mechanical Kurds reflects on the invisible infrastructures of artificial intelligence, revealing the bodies, territories and forms of labour that make its development possible, while questioning the relationship between technological innovation, political violence and image production.

ALESSIO JACONA is a journalist, presenter and moderator specialising in technology and innovation. He is the curator of ANSA.it's Artificial Intelligence Observatory and a contributor to Codice, la vita è digitale, broadcast on Rai1. For more than twenty-five years, he has explored how we use new technologies and how their adoption changes the very meaning of what we do and who we are. He currently writes about this epochal transformation for Italian Tech/La Repubblica, ANSA.it and Civiltà dei Dati, and has previously contributed to Nova24 (Il Sole 24 Ore), L'Espresso, Wired Italia and Corriere Motori.
