Produced for Italian public television between 1972 and 1973 and broadcast by RAI, Diario di un maestro follows the real-life experience of a teacher working with a class of students from a working-class neighborhood on the outskirts of Rome. Through a rigorous, documentary-inspired approach, Vittorio De Seta reflects on education as a tool for social awareness and emancipation, portraying an Italy rarely seen on screen. A landmark work in the history of Italian public television.
