OPEN CALL
THE SCHOOL TO BE DONE
Seminar on art education

Stemming from a collaboration between CASTRO and the Department for Preventive Education, THE SCHOOL TO BE DONE is an intensive ten-day seminar aimed at imagining alternative scenarios in the field of art education.

20 selected participants—together with international tutors—will work around the question “What would your ideal curriculum look like?”

The aim of the seminar is to place students at the center of the re-imagination of academic formats.

THE SCHOOL TO BE DONE is designed to have a non-hierarchical approach through the exchange of ideas and discussions between participants and tutors. Inspired by the Bruce High Quality Foundation University’s work in New York, its main purpose is to give space to the discussion around—and the concrete development of—a new academic curriculum.

During the 10-day programme, the schedule will be divided into a set of sessions, each led by a tutor who will share their personal experimental approach. Through community living, workshops and each session’s outcome, participants will be asked to collectively develop a proposal describing the academic curriculum. The workshop will finally be implemented in 2023 at CASTRO, thus giving shape to the ideas developed during the seminar.

At the end of the seminar, participants and tutors will discuss the topics covered during THE SCHOOL TO BE DONE as part of AGORÀ, MACRO’s public programme.

The seminar will be held at MACRO from the 4th to the 13th of April 2022. During this time, participants will have access to various museum spaces (classrooms, conference rooms and the library) in order to carry out group work.

The open call is free and open to all final-year undergraduates or recent graduates (Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees) from Visual Arts courses in Italian art schools.
