EMILIO PRINI
Exhibited works #6

On the occasion of the exhibition …E Prini, on show until 31 March 2024 in the SOLO/MULTI section, the following is a insight of one of the exhibited work. The texts, extracted from the documents presented in the exhibition, available in both Italian and English, deepen and expand the entire narrative framework of the project.

On 27 July 1989, at 7 p.m., Emilio Prini entered the spaces of Studio Ghiglione in Genoa carried on a sedan chair, from which he would not descend for the entire duration of the conference. The artist had promised himself never to touch the Ligurian capital’s soil again. He therefore decided to cover the floor of the gallery with transparent cellophane. While looking out from the curtains of the sedan chair, wearing a rubber clown nose, he instructed a number of interlocutors to ask predefined questions to which he repliese by pointing to the different inscriptions in the space. On the floor an inscription read “The gentlepied. Conferenza stampa”. On the left wall, the phrases “Le sedie sono autograttanti”, “Ignoranza su Gemito Vincenzo”, “Nonna Adolfo Wildt” and “Sta al genio”, appear in red adhesive lettering. The words “Verde 201607” and the slogan “Genova negativa” are written underneath two coats of arms of Genoa stuck on the wall. So as not remain true to the promise of not to setting foot in Genoa again, the conference ended with a party on board a ferry, which sailed out of the harbour towards the open sea.
