SEVENTEENTH EDITION OF GIORNATA DEL CONTEMPORANEO
11 December 2021

REGENERATION: (Soma)tic Rituals with CAConrad
as part of the exhibition Cut a Door in the Wolf by Jason Dodge

On 11 December 2021 MACRO participates in the Seventeenth edition of Giornata del Contemporaneo, promoted by AMACI – Association of Italian Contemporary Art Museum, involving museums, foundations, public and private institutions, art galleries, associations, artists’ studios to celebrate and share contemporary art in Italy.

For the occasion, the public is invited to meet the poet CAConrad, and to participate in their creative rituals inside Jason Dodge’s exhibition Cut a Door in the Wolf, which opened on 11 November.

This edition of Giornata del Contemporaneo chose as its common thread the performative act, for its ability to create new dynamics of interaction with the public through shared space.

Acting in this direction, CAConrad’s (Soma)tic Poetry Rituals are aimed at bringing out the creative potential in everything that surrounds us.

CAConrad will work inside Jason Dodge’s exhibition, where they will live day and night starting from 11 December, intervening in the artist’s tactile landscape composed of the traces of everyday life, and of discarded objects, produced by our individual and collective habits.

Dodge—who has often involved CAConrad in his projects—works with poetry and bodily movement as material, imagining the exhibition as a body in transformation: the presence of the poet will therefore create new perceptual stratifications and assemblages involving the visitor and placing him or her at the center of the interpretative action.

CAConrad creates “writing rituals using the night sky to design homemade star constellations, another ritual to dream with crows, and many others from talking with trees, ghosts, translating Shakespeare’s sonnets with crystals, and coping with the destroyed wilderness of our planet.”

CAConrad has worked with the ancient technologies of poetry and ritual since 1975. They are the author of AMANDA PARADISE: Resurrect Extinct Vibration (Wave Books, 2021). Other titles include While Standing in Line for Death and Ecodeviance. The Book of Frank is now available in 9 different languages. They teach at Columbia University in New York City and Sandberg Art Institute in Amsterdam.

On the occasion of Giornata del Contemporaneo, all the exhibitions of the museum’s autumn exhibition program will be open to visitors: Fore-edge Painting, with Tauba Auerbach, Kerstin Brätsch, Cansu Çakar, Enzo Cucchi, Camille Henrot, Victor Man, Andrea Salvino, and Andro Wekua; You can have my brain by Anna-Sophie Berger and Teak Ramos; The Extra Geographyby Sublime Frequencies; Autoritratto come Salvo, which also includes works by Jonathan Monk, Nicolas Party, Nicola Pecoraro and Ramona Ponzini; WIN A NEW CAR by VIER5; Chi ha paura di Patrizia Vicinelli, dedicated to Patrizia Vicinelli; RETROFUTURO, a focus on the collection that expands over time with the works of young Italian artists.

On Saturday 11 December the museum will be open from 12 pm to 10 pm.
The CAConrad intervention will start at 6 pm.
