#Retrofuture

Beatrice Celli joins the RETROFUTURE section, the collection of works by young Italian artists growing organically with time.

The artist presents La Fontana di Smaragos (2021),a water fountain made of ceramic to invoke and materialize one of the five demons that, in Greek mythology, plagued the potter’s artisan.

BEATRICE CELLI (L’Aquila, 1992) lives and works between Marseille and Castelli.  The artist draws inspiration from the mystical culture of Abruzzo, her native region, to explore the connections between craftsmanship, folklore, and magic, producing an eclectic body of sculptures, performances, texts, and installations in which local storytelling practices, rituals, and the impulsive merge. Her artworks breach normally inaccessible worlds, made up of occult energies and supernatural experiences. These are materialised as contemporary cult objects freed from all religious dogmatism. Her artworks have been presented in various venues such as Sonnenstube, Lugano; Institute of Visual Arts, Shanghai; Parc de la Villette, Paris; Centre d’art Transpalette, Bourges; Kaunas, Lithuania, on the occasion of European Capital of Culture 2022. Recent solo exhibitions include: Le jardin des allegories, Villa Arson, Nice, 2021; Pandæmonium, Castelli, 2021; Lu pozz sinza fonne, Festival Traffic, San Lorenzo in Campo, 2021.
