LAWRENCE WEINER
Deutsche Angst
By Peter Gordon & Lawrence Weiner
1982

For the summer of 2020 MACRO presents TRACCE / TRACES, an exhibition by Lawrence Weiner produced by the museum to leave its canonical spaces and take place in the sky through a series of aerial banners on the coastline from Ladispoli to Anzio.

Despite being known for his sculptural approach to language, artist Lawrence Weiner has also worked on composing musical pieces with Peter Gordon and others. A pioneer of New York’s minimal, jazz and experimental scenes, Peter Gordon’s style is rhythmic, angular and straight-edged with an underlying lyricism. After early collaborations on film projects and records, such as Deutsche Angst (1982), the two artists collaborated on an opera-theatre production The Society Architect Ponders the Golden Gate Bridge, oder: Wie sie kriegen, was sie nicht verdienen in 2002.
